There are 120,000 of us involved in forestry and forest product industries in this country.
Some 80,000 work in the growing, harvesting (and replanting) and sawmilling of both natural and plantation forests as well as the manufacturing of tissue, paper and cardboard.
About another 40,000 of us use timber to create framing, roof trusses, panel boards, wooden furniture, floors, windows and even boats and musical instruments.
We are a $20 billion sector of the economy and our enterprises underpin dozens of regional and rural communities.
Without these year-round jobs, the service and tourism industries would not be enough to sustain many of these country towns.
In a number of key regions we are a significant percentage of the population.
Let’s ensure we are heard.
Let’s ensure we know what positions our federal representatives are taking when crucial legislation affecting us comes before them in federal Parliament.
IN SHORT LET’S ‘BUILD THE VOTE’.
AFPA is the peak industry body representing the resources, processing, and pulp and paper industries covering the forest products value chain from the sustainable harvesting of plantations and small pockets of our natural resource including silviculture, forest management, processing of timber resources and manufacturing of pulp and paper.
